Spend your days visiting the island's beaches and landmarks before returning to Canisp* for all your home comforts. Named after the iconic mountain in Assynt on the mainland, our first floor flat spread over two floors nestles in the Stornoway rooftops with a lovely view over to Lews Castle from the single room. Formerly the attic above a bakery, the 4 bedroom flat sleeps 7 comfortably (plus cot). The unassuming exterior belies the light and airy atmosphere inside. Decorated and maintained to a high standard, with a gorgeous internal feature staircase, the flat includes hotel standard soft furnishings and decor throughout. Please be respectful and quiet when using the stairwell. Absolutely no rowdy parties or hen/stag dos are allowed at the flat. We reserve the right to ask anyone using the property to leave if the neighbours are given reasonable cause to complain. Pets Unfortunately due to the lack of outside space the flat is not suitable for pets. Internet Plusnet Broadband is available in all areas of the flat and is free of charge. Password will be provided before arrival. Parking There is ample parking near the property. You can unload your car on the yellow lines at the property (with free one hour parking permitted at certain times) but must then move your car to a nearby space away from the yellow lines. We suggest trying Keith Street. Services Private check-in/check-out. Key box at entrance. Code will be provided via email before arrival . (There are some exceptions: Beckett & Sons (10-4), Tesco, Hebridean Bakehouse (1 min from flat) and Engebret Ltd) If you've never experienced this before you will hopefully find it peaceful & refreshing, provided you are prepared! Calanais Stones The iconic Calanais Standing Stones (or Callanish in its anglicised form) is a cruciform shaped stone circle, erected around 5000 years ago, predating England’s famous Stonehenge monument, and an important place for ritual activity for at least 2,000 years. We don’t know exactly why the standing stones at Calanais were erected, but the best guess is that it was a kind of astronomical observatory. Visit the Calanais Standing stones and Visitor Centre https://www.calanais.org Harris Gin Distillery Take a wee drive down to Tarbert, Isle of Harris to visit the world famous distillery which is soon expanding its gin produce and to market its long awaited and much anticipated single malt whisky. It's thoughtfully laid out with wonderful, interactive exhibits to enjoy in a glorious setting. Britain’s most north westerly local authority museum & archive service, it covers the islands of the Outer Hebrides from Barra in the South to Lewis in the North. @MuseumnanEilean An Lanntair An Lanntair is a hub for creativity and the Arts in the Outer Hebrides. A multi arts venue – at one and the same time a contemporary art gallery, a theatre, a cinema, a dance studio, a concert hall, a platform for poetry and literature, a studio – every space stretched to showcase the Arts in multiple f orms. Its work stretches across a national and international platform, yet its distinctiveness lies in being ‘of the place’, rooted in "who we are, and the creativity of Gaelic and the Outer Hebrides takes centre stage." https://lanntair.com/ Beaches : They will all take your breath away: we love Eoropaidh, Gress,Tolsta (Traigh Mhòr and Gary Beach), Bostadh, Uig, Luskentyre, Horgabost Castle Grounds: On your doorstep you have the fantastic resource of the (free) Castle Grounds to explore. You can go on long or short walks through the rhodedendron bounded paths and look back at Stornoway from one of the many viewpoints. Sandwick Road, Stornoway Good Food Boutique The foodies among you will not want to miss the Good Food Boutique, at it's new home at 35 Bayhead, Stornoway- a wonderful deli to rival any city shop you will have a lovely time browsing through the many delightful treats they have on offer. Place an early sandwich order, then pop along later to collect it. Comunn Eachdraidh Nis : Comunn Eachdraidh Nis records, preserves and promotes the history, language and culture of North Lewis for local and global communities and aims to promote social health and well-being through a range of activities for all ages. With Museum, Archives, Gallery and wonderful cafe it provides an interesting a welcoming break whatever the weather. Na Gearrannan: Working blackhouse museum in Carloway. Also with accommodation.. Experience the history and heritage of crofting life. Enjoy fresh food and home-baking in the cafeteria and buy mementoes in the village shop. A Scottish island holiday experience that will stay in your memory! Iolaire Memorial: situated at Holm Point near Stornoway, a poignant memorial for the loss of HM Iolaire, a yacht returning from war in the early hours of New Year’s Day 1919 with the death of at least 201 souls - undoubtedly the most tragic single occurrence to befall the combined island of Lewis and Harris. You can fly to Stornoway from Inverness, Glasgow and Edinburgh. More usually, you can get to the island via the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry service, either sailing from Ullapool to Stornoway or alternatively sailing into Tarbert in Harris before driving north to Stornoway. T o p Tip: We would recommend leaving on a later ferry so that you are not rushing when leaving the flat and have time to gather all your belongings and leave the flat as you find it.
