Calanais Stones The iconic Calanais Standing Stones (or Callanish in its anglicised form) is a cruciform shaped stone circle, erected around 5000 years ago, predating England’s famous Stonehenge monument, and an important place for ritual activity for at least 2,000 years. We don’t know exactly why the standing stones at Calanais were erected, but the best guess is that it was a kind of astronomical observatory. Visit the Calanais Standing stones and Visitor Centre https://www.calanais.org Harris Gin Distillery Take a wee drive down to Tarbert, Isle of Harris to visit the world famous distillery which is soon expanding its gin produce and to market its long awaited and much anticipated single malt whisky.
