Situated in the heart of Stornoway, Isle of Lewis our spacious flat is in the perfect location for touring throughout Lewis and Harris. Spend your days visiting the island's beaches and landmarks before returning to Canisp* in Stornoway (the main town on Lewis) for all your home comforts. Named after the iconic mountain in Assynt on the mainland, our first floor flat spread over two floors nestles in the Stornoway rooftops with a lovely view over to the Castle from the single room. Formerly the attic above a bakery, our 4 bedroom flat sleeps 7 comfortably (plus cot). The unassuming exterior belies the light and airy atmosphere inside. Recently decorated to a high standard, with a gorgeous internal feature staircase, the flat includes hotel standard soft furnishings and decor throughout. This is our holiday home and we hope you will love it as much as we do.

Neighbours

The flat shares an entrance door/stairwell with 2 other neighbours and their happiness is very important to us. Please be respectful and quiet when using the stairwell. Absolutely no rowdy parties or hen/stag dos are allowed at the flat. We reserve the right to ask anyone using the property to leave if the neighbours are given reasonable cause to complain.

Unfortunately due to the lack of outside space the flat is not suitable for pets.

Plusnet Broadband is available in all areas of the flat and is free of charge. Password will be provided.
Parking

There is ample parking near the property. You can unload your car on the yellow lines at the property (with free one hour parking permitted at certain times) but must then move your car to a nearby space away from the yellow lines. We suggest trying Keith Street.

IMPORTANT:
The shops and businesses on Lewis are in the main shut on a Sunday which is still widely respected as a day of rest. If you've never experienced this before you will find it refreshing, provided you are prepared :-) You are strongly advised to buy all food and supplies you will need the day before. Some hotels etc take restaurant bookings but you will need to book well in advance. (Engebret Ltd is one shop that does open for a reduced number of hours on a Sunday - check website for details: http://www.engebret.co.uk/)

Be ready for all types weather and you will have a fantastic holiday. Beaches can be just as much fun in the rain as the sun - it's all about being prepared. You may genuinely experience all seasons in one day but you will never be short of things to do. Here are a few of our favourites and following on is a list of others you might enjoy.
Calanais Stones
The iconic Calanais Standing Stones (or Callanish in its anglicised form) is a cruciform shaped stone circle, erected around 5000 years ago, predating England’s famous Stonehenge monument, and an important place for ritual activity for at least 2,000 years. We don’t know exactly why the standing stones at Calanais were erected, but the best guess is that it was a kind of astronomical observatory.

Harris Gin Distillery
Take a wee drive down to Tarbert, Isle of Harris to visit the world famous distillery which is soon expanding its gin produce and to market its long awaited and much anticipated single malt whisky. Knowledgable and entertaining local guides conduct fantastic tours of the distillery and there is a lovely cafe and shop meaning visits are enjoyed by all.
Museum & Tasglann nan Eilean (Stornoway) :
Located in a modern, purpose built extension to the beautifully restored Lews Castle, the Museum nan Eilean opened on 14 July 2016. It's thoughtfully laid out with wonderful, interactive exhibits to enjoy in a glorious setting. Britain’s most north westerly local authority museum & archive service, it covers the islands of the Outer Hebrides from Barra in the South to Lewis in the North. @MuseumnanEilean
An Lanntair
An Lanntair is a hub for creativity and the Arts in the Outer Hebrides. A multi arts venue – at one and the same time a contemporary art gallery, a theatre, a cinema, a dance studio, a concert hall, a platform for poetry and literature, a studio – every space stretched to showcase the Arts in multiple forms. Its work stretches across a national and international platform, yet its distinctiveness lies in being ‘of the place’, rooted in "who we are, and the creativity of Gaelic and the Outer Hebrides takes centre stage."
Good Food Boutique
The foodies among you will not want to miss the Good Food Boutique, situated 2 mins from the flat - you will think you've died and gone to heaven browsing through the many delightful treats they have on offer. Place an early sandwich order, then pop along later to collect it. You will of course be sampling their wares in your wee welcome basket

Castle Grounds: On your doorstep you have the fantastic resource of the (free) Castle Grounds to explore. You can go on long or short walks through the rhodedendron bounded paths and look back at Stornoway from one of the many viewpoints. There is a lovely wee Woodland Cafe where you can get a bite to eat after your efforts.

Sports & recreation: Stornoway has openair tennis courts, football pitches, a skatepark plus a good swimming pool and sports centre. As always, book before you come to avoid disappointment.

Hebridean Celtic Festival : To be honest you can't stay at our place as we go every year !! It's a fantastic family friendly music festival and we have to mention it.

Lighthouses: drive to Ness or Point- you can't enter the lighthouses but they are worth a visit and a walk at the impressive cliff edges.

Iolaire Memorial: situated at Holm Point near Stornoway, a poignant memorial for the loss of HM Iolaire, a yacht returning from war in the early hours of New Year’s Day 1919 with the death of at least 201 souls - undoubtedly the most tragic single occurrence to befall the combined island of Lewis and Harris.

Getting Here
Please ensure you can get on and off the island on your chosen dates.
You can fly to Stornoway from Inverness, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
More usually, you can get to the island via the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry service, either sailing from Ullapool to Stornoway or alternatively sailing into Tarbert in Harris before driving north to Stornoway.
Top Tip: We would recommend leaving on a later ferry so that you are not rushing when leaving the flat and have time to gather all your belongings and leave the flat as you find it.
